A 38-year-old man, of foreign nationality, was detained at Humberto Delgado Airport, in Lisbon, on suspicion of committing multiple frauds, following the execution of a European warrant, issued by the German judicial authorities.

The suspect, who was on the run from justice, is said to have committed “several crimes of fraud and forgery” as part of the “activity he carries out as a consultant and investment broker”, the Judiciary Police (PJ) said in a statement.

The crimes allegedly occurred in the “period between 2015 and 2018”, when the individual entered into “several brokerage contracts”, causing the victims to provide “high-value amounts to make investments that were never implemented”.

“The detainee used fictitious identities to publish alleged goods for sale in cyberspace. He received the requested amount from the victims, never delivering the alleged goods, worth tens of thousands of euros”, the note further explains.

The foreign man was then brought before the Lisbon Court of Appeal, subject to the most serious measure of coercion, preventive detention, before being handed over to the German authorities.
