Atlético Madrid player Diego Costa sentenced to six months in prison for tax fraud

Barcelona.

Diego Costa, Hispanic-Brazilian striker at Atlético Madrid, was sentenced on Thursday to six months in prison for tax fraud.

The player pleaded guilty to a tax offense, which amounts to 1.1 million euros, and will pay a fine (about 36,000 euros) to avoid going to prison, thus being suspended.

Diego Costa was denounced by the Tax Agency of the neighboring country for not declaring the total income at the time he left Atlético Madrid (2014) to sign for Chelsea. The tax authorities of the neighboring country attributed another tax offense to the player in 2013, but ended up accepting the allegations of the footballer’s aides.

The footballer decided to reach an agreement with the tax authorities, pay the fine, as well as the amounts of the tax in question.
