Thunderstorm, heavy rain and hail threaten almost the whole Portugal this Sunday

Twelve districts in mainland Portugal will be under yellow warning this Sunday, between 11 am and 9 pm, due to the forecast of thunderstorm, heavy rain and hail, reported the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).

Bragança, Viseu, Porto, Guarda, Vila Real, Santarém, Viana do Castelo, Castelo Branco, Aveiro, Coimbra, Portalegre and Braga are the districts that are under yellow warning, due to precipitation and thunderstorm.

According to the IPMA, today it is expected “showers and thunderstorms in some places, which may be strong, hail and accompanied by strong gusts of wind”.

IPMA says that thunderstorms will be frequent in the 12 districts.

For Braga, Coimbra, Aveiro, Viana do Castelo and Porto, the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere provides “downpours and thunderstorms in some places in the interior”.

The yellow warning is issued by the IPMA when there is a risk situation for certain activities depending on the weather situation
