Power News: DIG Navaraj Silwal joins UML

KATHMANDU: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Nepal Police Navaraj Silwal has joined CPN-UML on Friday even as the government hasn’t approved his resignation so far.

Issuing a statement Friday, Silwal announced he had tendered his resignation from Nepal Police after the Supreme Court issued a verdict against him in a case regarding the appointment of inspector general.

Nepal Police spokesman Manoj Neupane informed that Silwal’s resignation has yet to be sanctioned. Nepal Police regulations have a provision to punish any member of the police force who joins a political party.

On Friday, Silwal joined the UML amidst a function where the party’s chairman, KP Oli welcomed him with garland and vermillion powder. Also on Wednesday, Silwal had attended a UML function in Lalitpur.
